 ► A Portland man was arrested and charged on Friday with one count of mailing a threatening communication to a member of Congress and one count of mailing a letter threatening to use a biological weapon to a U.S. senator. Christopher Lee Carlson was arrested after an investigation by the FBI and the U.S. Postal Service uncovered evidence that he was responsible for mailing more than one hundred envelopes from Oregon to politicians and members of the news media.

Bart R. Johnson is the new executive director of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the nation's largest and oldest police organization. Colorado to Discuss Retinal Scans, Fingerprinting to Secure Prescription Drugs

A retinal scan to verify that the person filling the prescription is the same person it was prescribed to, patient data sent over encrypted communications to check for drug interactions and preventing doctor shopping--all of this information, plus some, in a statewide database. This could be the future of medicine access control.

►The Justice Department is cracking down on bribery in global business. “At least 78 corporations are under investigation for possible violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act,” the New York Times reports. Among the companies are Goldman Sachs, Hewlett-Packard, Pfizer and Wal-Mart. The FCPA prohibits companies from bribing officials or executives to keep business, but enforcement of the law had been lax.
